Bishop Crowther College of Theology, Okene

In January, 1991, the College was converted to a full-fledged College of Theology, able to award the Diploma in Theology and the Diploma in Christian Religious Education.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  1. To train priests to be effective in ministerial work in the Church.
  2. To expose students to the basic Christian principles and content.
  3. To familiarize the students as objectively as possible to the facts of Christian faith within other religions.
  4. To help students solve societal problems from Christian perspective.

A COLLEGE IN AFFILIATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF JOS

The Kogi State Ministry of Education has approved the College's Diploma Courses in Christian Religious Education. The State Government also approved the Nursery and Primary School of the College in 1995.

In October 2000, the University of Jos approved the award of the Diploma in Religious Studies and the Diploma in Religious Education.

About 840 students have graduated from the school since its inception:

  • the Diploma in Theology: about 600 students
  • the Diploma in Religious Education: 160 students
  • Catechist course: 44 students
  • Diploma in Religious Studies: 198 students

The School conducts interviews for prospective students every Easter Tuesday, each year. Admission Requirements are minimum of three credits at GCE / WAEC, including English Language and Christian Religious Knowledge.

The duration for the Courses is as follows:

Diploma in Theology (regular): 3 years

Diploma in Theology (sandwich): 4 years

Diploma in Religious Studies: 2 years (no sandwich).
