  • Cluster Publications, Pietermaritzburg (South Africa)

Cluster Publications is a non-profit publishing enterprise of the Pietermaritzburg Cluster of Theological Institutions. It aims at producing sound and inexpensive works of contemporary theology. It is run on an entirely voluntary basis. Academic staff of the Cluster institutions typeset the books using DTP software before delivering them to local printers. Despite these limitations Cluster Publications has achieved a considerable amount, having already published over 30 books.

The Kachere Series is an initiative of the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Malawi. It aims to promote the emergence of a body of literature which will enable students and others to engage critically with religion, culture and society in Malawi. As important resources for study related to these fields, the editors are confident that the books of the Kachere Series will come to be prized not only within Malawi, but in every academic centre concerned with religion and society in Africa. An important starting point lies with the publication of essays and theses which until now have been inaccessible to all but the most dedicated specialist. It is also hoped, however, that the development of scholarship in Malawi will stimulate the writing of many new books.

There are four categories of publishing that the Kachere Series produces: Kachere Books, Kachere Texts, Kachere Monographs, and Kachere Studies. In addition, it publishes two academic journals and the "Sources for the Study of Religion in Malawi". The Kachere Series also looks after the interest of the Mvunguti Series, a sister to the Kachere Series, which publishes books "in the many languages of Malawi".
